Effect of Fiber Orientation on the Tribological Performance of Abaca-Reinforced Epoxy Composite under Dry Contact Conditions

This paper presents tribological research of an abaca fiber-reinforced epoxy composite material, analyzing fiber orientation and its effect on the performances composite. The extremely low viscosity resin reinforced with NaOH-treated long fibers is investigated under different operating conditions. unidirectional formed specimens in three directions, parallel (P-O), anti-parallel (AP-O) normal (N-O), while keeping sliding direction. were fabricated using volume fractions 10 vol%, 20 vol% 30 vacuum infusion technique. block-on-disc (BOD) apparatus has been used to exhibit tests. Normal loads 35 N 45 have for testing purposes. experimental results indicated that presence significantly improved wear characteristics matrix. An increased coefficient friction was observed samples anti-parallel-oriented at applied load N. conducted shows use as fillers could improve resin-based material.
